Measurement of brain edema by noninvasive cerebral electrical impedance in patients with massive hemispheric cerebral infarction.

BACKGROUND Malignant cerebral infarction often occurs in patients with massive cerebral infarction. Monitoring brain edema is therefore helpful to make correct clinical decisions. Our previous studies have confirmed that cerebral electrical impedance (CEI) can sensitively reflect the brain edema after stroke. METHODS The CEI was measured consecutively by a noninvasive brain edema monitor in 6...

CEREBRAL EDEMA: A RARE COMPLICATION IN GALACTOSEMIA

A 34 day-old girl infant was admitted for poor feeding and cholestasis. She had a bulging fontanelle, with no evidence of intracranial infection or hemorrhage. Investigations demonstrated that she had galactosemia. Computed tomographic scans demonstrated the presence of diffuse cerebral edema. After treatment the edema resolved.

Logic and Cerebral Hemispheric Interaction

In this paper we examine the weakest formal languages permitting a characterization of: 1. Certain functional asymmetries which exist between the left and right cerebral hemispheres; and 2. 'Interpretation' in natural languages. Correlations between the weakest formal languages required provide a minimal framework for exploring hemispheric interaction, and allow formulation of constraints on th...

Treatment of cerebral edema.

BACKGROUND Cerebral edema is a potentially devastating complication of various acute neurologic disorders. Its successful treatment may save lives and preserve neurologic function. REVIEW SUMMARY Different pathophysiological mechanisms are responsible for the formation of cytotoxic and vasogenic edema. Yet, these 2 types of edema often coexist and their treatment tends to overlap, with the ex...
